This is why I love Harry. He loves both of his best friends so much that he can’t bear to leave even one of them behind. He sees Ron and knows he has to save him, as the clue read “And while you’re searching, ponder this: we’ve taken what you’ll soley miss.” But then he notices Hermione, and he realizes he can’t just choose one. The last part of the clue says “But past an hour, the prospect’s black, too late, it’s gone. It won’t come back.” For all he knows, that means she’ll be stuck in the lake forever, and he couldn’t handle that. He must save both, because there’s no way he could be without either of them. And it’s only until he sees Krum save her that he goes back to Ron and unties him. That’s true friendship right there.
